I'm Driving A Point Home While Everyone's Still Partying

You wanna read something truly horrible? Check it out:
Judge Noam Sohlberg ruled that parts of the indictment should be released in order to inform the public of the horrific nature of the crime and help expose similar cases. “At least part of the horrific descriptions in the charge sheet should be brought to public notice, to parents and children, because it seems that this is not an isolated event,” Sohlberg wrote.
“There are other people whose relatives were caught in similar sects, and who had given up hope of rescuing their near ones from the sect; or who had perhaps not done everything possible in this regard because they did not know how horrific [the sects] are.”
Releasing some of the details in the case could serve as a “vital service to those families and to other people trapped in cults like this one, encouraging them not to give up, but to exhaust every possible effort to escape from the sect,” he added.
The leader of the cult was indicted on 15 counts, including slavery, physical, sexual and emotional abuse of minors — including some of his own biological children — unlawful imprisonment, indecent sexual acts, sodomy, rape, serious violent crimes and indecent assault, according to the indictment.
The accomplice, also charged with committing numerous violent sex crimes under the leader’s orders, was the one who most often committed the abuses and was known by the nicknames of “Satan” and “Evil Inclination” by the victims. The third man was only accused in one incident of physical and sexual abuse and was not convicted on Tuesday.
Police used the information in personal journals kept by the women and children to uncover details about the abuses and build their case.
The women and children were subject to daily “confessions” and “judgments” and were punished by means of imprisonment, starvation, physical and mental abuse, humiliation, sexual abuse, and severe violence, according to the indictment. Police found numerous torture devices when they searched the house.
The police uncovered the cult in August 2011,...

Pretty bad, huh? Yeah, but that's still not the horrible part. It's buried within the words of a single follower:
“There Was Only Love In The House.”

She'd Have Everything I Wanted (And Too Much I Don't)

Since it's written by women, about women, I guess it's safe to say this is just what women do:
"The awesome power of the queen bee is over other females, rather than males. Yes, males fall for her, too, but the really interesting thing about her is the way she controls her sisters. That's what makes her the queen"....
There once was a time when middle-class housewives formed hivelike groups to analyze and overcome a shared sense of oppression. Forty years ago, the oppressor was a man in your life, men in general or, if you didn't want your politics to get too personal, a male-dominated power structure,...
Here's one startling takeaway from The Hive: If a middle-class housewife feels second class in 2013, her oppressor is more likely to be another woman—quite possibly the local queen bee or the queen's ambitious minions.
Men are excluded for different reasons now. A queen bee's power is exaggerated when her subjects are cut off from men and from the larger world. She might be the bossy friend who pressures you to forgo vaccinating your kids. Or the hostess who gets her kicks excluding you from her spa party.

Good old Feminism. So, if they can't somehow destroy a man, now they'll settle for destroying each other - or their unvaccinated children - and will replace the woman who doesn't as "Queen".

Great:

And people wonder why I won't even entertain the idea of letting a woman near me again,...

White Cultural Infrastructure: I Heard That Phrase On TV

Magical thinking. It all sounds like so much magical thinking:
Evil is banal yet alien to our everyday sensibilities; the up-close representation of atrocity encourages prurient voyeurism, though ignoring the gory details skates dangerously close to apathy; there are socio-cultural climates that promote evil behavior, but we should not lose sight of individual human agency; it is easy to recognize the evil actions perpetrated by another country but hard to see those perpetrated by one’s own.

Yep, somehow, nobody seems to ever see a thing,...
