If Oprah Runs For Office The Entire Planet Will Explode

Just like with Jesse Jackson, Jr., one reason I knew Mitt Romney was going to be a failure was his involvement in the NewAge.

And I'm not alone in how I look for it - simple skepticism.

The guys behind South Park use it - and doctors, too. Check out Orac busting Carol Alt, another self-appointed "Miss Information":

Before I wrote this post I Googled “Carol Alt cancer,” and what I found was surprisingly thin. There’s this article from 2008 in which Alt is quoted as blaming cervical and uterine cancer for the failure of her marriage to Ron Greschner because she had been rendered unable to have children and Greschner very much wanted to have children. This happened back in 1997; so her cancer diagnosis must have occurred before that. There was also this article, which said basically the same thing but also revealed that Alt is very much into raw food woo. This article reinforces the same points, but doesn’t mention Alt’s battle with cervical cancer and instead attributes her adopting a raw vegan diet to feeling run down and larger as she got older. In the article, she also spews many of the tropes and bits of misinformation about raw vegan diets. She even blathers on about “acid diets” and how the body likes to be “alkaline.” Holy Robert O. Young, Batman!

Here’s the interesting thing. Alt takes a lot of supplements. A lot of supplements,...

Another fool "on the path" - Glenn Reynolds has promoted the wonders of "raw food woo" as well. And wouldn't you know it? Carol Alt's possibly using supplements provided by who else?

Mitt Romney.

Corruption, profiting from spreading bad advice, losing elections, selling and/or taking worthless concoctions, giving money to criminals, etc., it's always the same.

Seriously:

NewAgers - and the problems they'll eventually accrue for us - just aren't that difficult to discover ahead of time,...

It Looks Like The Gay Rights Movement Is Still Trying To Look Like How The Civil Rights Movement Used To Look

People being tortured by lies, portrayed as troublemakers and liars, as the lies and liars are celebrated - that's a nice gig you got there, gays, with a long history and a lot of integrity:

The "usefulness" of lies to get respect - or is it pride? Whatever:

Another lesson from some long lost episode of Will & Grace, I'm sure,...

Give Up Tomorrow: Life's A Nightmare Without Sleeping

On the night of the murders, Paco LarraƱaga was over 300 miles away, with about 40 friends. They have photographs.

He got a life sentence.

After his accusers channeled the dead in court, arguing for a harsher sentence, LarraƱaga got the death penalty.

"We're not the same, we'll never be the same."

I've been saying that a lot, myself,....

Self-Serving? (Why, If That's The Case, I'll Take Two) III

This piece on Dave Chappelle sounds so familiar to TMR it almost physically hurts to read it:
Theories for why he quit abound. Some say he had a mental breakdown, others presume he suffered from being “the one righteous man in a world of corruption”, as Jason Zinoman, a comedy critic for the New York Times, writes in his e-book “Searching for Dave Chappelle”. Though Mr Chappelle has never fully explained his reasons for leaving, in interviews he has said that he worried his comedy was becoming socially irresponsible. He mentioned hearing a white TV-crew member laugh during the filming of a sketch in a way that made him uncomfortable.
Race is an important theme in his work. When Mr Chappelle first started out, playing to racially mixed audiences in Washington, DC’s largely segregated comedy scene in the 1980s, he caught flak for “not being black enough” (a concern over racial fidelity that white artists never have to face). His TV show dealt with race frankly and often surreally: one sketch concerned a blind white supremacist who did not know he was black; another featured a “racial draft”, in which American ethnic groups “drafted” biracial or culturally hybrid celebrities (the Jews took Lenny Kravitz; the blacks took Tiger Woods; the Asians got the Wu-Tang Clan). In Austin a particularly funny (and unprintable) bit involved him hiring as his personal chef Paula Deen, a white Southern cookbook author who was recently fired from the Food Network for using racial slurs.
It is not clear what is next for Mr Chappelle when this American tour ends in late September. Despite his long absence, he seems at home on stage. If there were fewer roll-on-the-ground laughs than the audience may have expected, there was also the sense that a restless innovator is pushing the bounds of his art.

Yep - I know the feeling:

That's just what some of us do,...

I'm Going About Getting Donations The Wrong Way Or / Polis Get Millis 'Cause They REAL Assholes And Bitches

This doesn't just make me wonder about Eleanor, but whoever she's talking to - is he/she stupid? Can they see a scam or have they grown accustomed to how the game is played? You know Eleanor deserves a serenade for this here - but I can think of only one artist fits the bill:

I don't want to hear another word about Rappers, and their ugly displays of power and wealth, from anybody:
